Foster Care Fortnight

Facebook

As we enter in to Foster Care Fortnight you may wonder what we have been up to.  For the last few weeks we have been engaging with people through our Facebook ad.  It generated 17 enquiries (just to qualify that – it is a person who requested further information on our services).  I will now go back through those enquires and invite those who have left their details to a Zoom ‘open evening’ so we can explore their motivations further.  In the coming weeks we will also run a 2nd ad.

Radio

Starting from tomorrow and in 3 regions (Swindon, Bristol, West Wilts – Sam & Breeze Radio) we are running a recruitment ad.  This ad will run for 3 months finishing in July 2020.

Our aim is to raise awareness to the need of young people in care in these unprecedented times.

All our efforts are to raise awareness to fostering as a professional role and for them to join Amicus ‘an Ofsted Outstanding Team’.

How can you help?

Twibbon

The Fostering Network have a series of free resources noted below that you can add to your Facebook page or print and put in your window.  I have updated my own and Amicus Facebook page with the Twibbon – I would be grateful if you did this as well – Go to http://bit.ly/FCF20twibbon

It’s a small change that makes a big difference. It’s quick and easy to add  the Twibbon to your personal social media account so please ask your foster carers to add one to theirs too.

Post a placard picture and tag people

Add an image of yourself with the #ThisIsFostering placard and share it on Facebook with the following message:

Every 20 minutes in the UK a child comes into care in need of a foster family. The contribution foster carers, social workers and others in the fostering community make to our society every day is vital, but often underappreciated. Please share this message to raise awareness for all those who make sure children in foster care can live in a stable and loving home. Foster care transforms lives. #FCF20

Why not encourage others to spread the word too? Tag in three people to share a photo of them (with or without a placard) and spread our message to raise awareness for fostering.

Resources

As well as three different designs of poster and two designs of placard, FCN have also produced a dot-to-dot and ‘colour your own’ version so children can get involved too! Please encourage your foster carers to go online and print them off!

To receive resources, including our stickers, through the post please get in touch with FCF at fcf@fostering.net .

All printable resources can also be accessed from our Dropbox using bit.ly/FCF20resources.

How to use our postcards, posters and stickers

  • If you have a local business that is still open (newsagents, garages, bike shops etc) why not ask them to put a postcard or poster up in their window or on their counter during the fortnight?
  • You could also ask local business workers if they are happy to wear a sticker during the campaign. Alternatively leave a sheet of stickers outside your door and encourage delivery drivers and postal workers to take and wear one – these are the people who other people then may also see.

Please share this with your foster carers and keep having those fostering chats.

Thank you for supporting #FCF20.
