I am Gertie Barnard-Draper, one of the Supervising Social Workers here at Amicus Foster Care.
I completed my degree in social work back in South Africa in 2002. The early part of my social work career was spent working in Safeguarding, first in London and then for Bath and North East Somerset after we moved to Wiltshire. It was during this time I decided to move towards supporting foster carers and have not looked back since, working as a Supervising Social Worker for the Wiltshire fostering team for over 12 years.
Over the years I have supported many foster carers in transition (including transition to adoption), which has allowed me to develop my own understanding and awareness around therapeutic approaches, supporting children and foster carers during those transitions. I have heard really amazing things about Amicus and feel very privileged to be a part of such a fantastic team.
In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my friends and family; as well as going for regular walks in the countryside and along the beach. I find baking a very relaxing activity and am often found in the kitchen during weekends, baking for friends and neighbours.
