I am delighted to share the experiences of Xanthe, aged 10, who is being brought up in a fostering family. I asked Xanthe a number of questions and here’s what she had to say.
Did your mums talk to you about fostering and what were your initial thoughts?
“My mums talk to me about fostering all the time because it is good for me to understand why children need their help”.
How old were you when you got your first foster brother/sister?
“Ba ha ha ha! 😊 I was 0! My mums fostered before they had me and my sister. So when I was born there was 2 foster sisters my birth sister and then me. Since then we have fostered 10 more children”.
Do your friends ask you about fostering? What do you tell them?
“Yes they see my mum with different children so I explain that they need a safe home”.
What do you like about being part of the Amicus family?
“We get together for lots of fun activities and they remember our birthdays”.
How would you sum up being in a foster family?
“Exciting, kind, helpful (and a little stressful at times)”.
